Experienced NYC Psychoanalyst and Psychologist Dr. David Banthin

Dr. David Banthin brings a unique sense of diversity and depth to his clinical work. Prior to becoming a psychologist and psychoanalyst, he worked in management consulting from 1996 to 2004, holding various roles at Price Waterhouse, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and IBM consultancies. At IBM, David served as a principal consultant, leading assessment and transformation efforts at global companies. Later, in his new career, Dr. Banthin spent close to a decade as a psychologist at the Center for Intensive Treatment of Personality Disorders, managing patient intake, developing treatment plans, and providing group and individual treatments. These experiences, among others, help Dr. Banthin bring more than one lens to the clinical encounter.

In 2014, Dr. Banthin joined the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai as a psychologist and assistant professor. He expanded his scholarly work by joining the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis, and Psychology as a psychoanalyst and faculty member in 2021. Since 2023, he has provided psychodynamic and psychoanalytic treatment, in a private practice setting, to individuals and couples as the owner of Banthin Psychological Services. His primary treatment method emphasizes psychodynamic psychotherapy rooted in psychoanalysis. He is also adept at integrating cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and mindfulness into his work with patients.

His academic background includes a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from The New School for Social Research. Dr. Banthin subsequently interned and trained at the James J. Peters Veterans Administration Medical Center and then completed multiple postdoctoral training programs.
